Bridge Collapses in MinneapolisAug 1 2007 10:44PM
KXMBTV Bismarck Rescue efforts are underway and the death toll is rising. DREW LEVINSON HAS THE LATEST. It's a massive disaster zone in Minnesota. The entire span of the busy highway bridge is down.it collapsed during rush hour.. plunging cars and people into the Mississippi River On both riverbanks and down in the water..it's a catastophy..and it's difficult for emergency crews to reach While fire trucks tackled flames on what was left of the concrete structure.. boats scoured the water for victims. Some of the injured were helped up the riverbank and rushed to hospitals. A school bus full of children was crossing the bridge as it began to buckle.. but it did not go into the water. Some of the children were injured.. they all got off of the bus. The four-lane bridge.. part of Interstate 35-W.. connects Minneapolis and St. Paul. The bridge is 40 years old, and there was some maintenance work underway.. but there is no word yet on what caused the collapse. Drew Levinson, CBS News.

Congratulations BJ. I hope you feel better after your rant, its not going to help those who are no longer alive though, is it?
Perhaps you should get your own blog and rant. But please, if you do - have the courtesy to employ basic grammar and proofreading skills first.
As for bush visiting the site. Isn't one disaster enough in one place. Lightning rarely strikes twice. Why add insut to injury with his pathetic show and tell visit.
I'm angry too, that people have lost loved ones. It is a terrible tragedy. God be with them all in this dark time.
66 years young, and still you've not been educated? It's time to take off the sundress. . .
I love your comments, and they seem to make your smart. You've just forgotten one factor: FACTS!!!! I don't know about us A-hole Republicans, but it's been my experience that lies are bad rhetoric.
I stubbed my toe!
Dang GWB!!!!!
WE DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK. SHUT UP. When is your next psychotherapy session? Time to get one scheduled.
"The bridge was deemed "structurally deficient" starting in 1990. That didn't result in an emergency repair order, but rather an intention to replace the bridge by 2020 — not unusual, evidently, since the designation doesn't suggest imminent danger. According to Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, speaking Thursday afternoon at a press conference, there are no fewer 70,000 to 80,000 bridges in the U.S. in the same category; at least another 80,000 are considered "functionally obsolete," or not up to current design standards, another label that fails to testify to a structure's safety for travel.
"Officials at all levels of government tend to defer maintenance on bridges and roadways; the voters wouldn't stand for the required expenditures."
1990...if my memory serves, Bush wasn't president. While his father was, the democrats' precious Clinton didn't do anything about it either. But then again he was too busy diddling everybody in Washington. And quite frankly, I don't think we need to "promote America" - we're already being swarmed by immigrants. Mission accomplished.
This event is a true tragedy and should be treated with a little more compassion and a little less politics. You really think the loved ones of those who were lost blame the bridge collapse on the war? Um, NO. My thoughts and prayers remain with these families and friends.
