Officials: Attacked teacher filed for divorce from estranged husband...Feb 7 2008 5:37PM
Associated Press PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (AP) Police say a teacher who was attacked in her Ohio classroom by her estranged husband had filed for divorce last month. Authorities say the husband charged into the elementary school this morning and fired a gun before stabbing Christi Layne as her fifth-grade class watched. It's unclear whether the gunshot hit her. Police say the man also stabbed another woman in an alley about five blocks from the school before attacking his wife, who is in critical condition. Authorities say the Laynes had been separated and that police were involved in a domestic dispute between them about two weeks ago. Layne's attorney says she was afraid such an attack might happen. After this morning's shooting, the man fled to his home. A SWAT team surrounded the house for hours, firing some shots. The man was later found dead in a garage behind his house. Officials say he apparently shot himself in the head. % |
