Forest Service buys flying drones to help find marijuana growers...Apr 3 2008 1:46PM
Associated Press By MATTHEW BROWN Associated Press Writer BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) The U.S. Forest Service has purchased a pair of flying drones to track down marijuana cultivators operating in remote California woodlands. Agriculture Undersecretary Mark Rey, who oversees the Forest Service, tells The Associated Press the pilotless aircraft will allow agency law enforcement officers to pinpoint marijuana fields and size up potential dangers before agents make arrests. Rey says there is an increasing number of marijuana growers financed by Mexican drug cartels who are using California's national forests to stage their operations. The SkySeer drones cost $100,000 each and weigh only four pounds. They were delivered to the Forest Service's aviation branch in Montana before being shipped to California. One of the drones is equipped with a thermal camera for nighttime flights. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 04-03-08 1333CDT |

i could think of 200000 other possible ways to UTILIZE taxpayer money
oh well what is a fella to do?
Don't want the mexican cartels? legalize it
Don't want your street corner turned into a drug dealership? legalize it
Don't want your tax dollars used to lock up people that like to use it? legalize it
It's not chemically addictive (like nicotine, cocaine), it's far less damaging socially (rather be a security agent at a Jack Daniels fest or a WeedFest? hmmm).
The list is long, end prohibition. Period.
Crumbling infrasctructure?
Downward-spiraling public schools?
Research/manufacturing related to sustainable energy sources?
No, screw those. We don't need them. Lets spend money on finding and killing plants. That's a BRILLIANT idea.
when is the government going to realize that the war on marijuana is never going to end.
It's amusing because I volunteer in the Angeles National Forest and various genetic strains of the plant grow wild in the mountains. I come across it hiking and working in the mountains and know enough that it's harmless. The issue is the growers are dangerous, but there's enough wild plant growing up there that every time I hear of an eradication project, I have to laugh a bit. It's a weed.

They don't WANT it to end!! It's the same as any other crime with a fine. If they really wanted speeding to (almost) end, they'd simply kill anyone caught speeding, like Singapore with drug dealers. Now, Singapore still has drugs, but it costs a million times more than the USA, so only government people can get drugs now, so there's an incentive to continue the slaughter of the accused dealers.
Follow the money. It's no different from when alcohol was illegal. Criminalize it and only criminals will profit.
