Big financial meeting...AlQaida message...Pakistan strike...Oct 4 2008 12:01PM
Associated Press PARIS (AP) The global financial crisis is the principal topic of a European summit today. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is calling on his counterparts to send the message that "no sound, solvent bank" will be allowed to fail. European governments differ on how far to intervene. CAIRO, Egypt (AP) An American member of al-Qaida is calling on Pakistanis to put aside differences and establish an Islamic state. In a video message, Adam Gadahn (ah-DAHM' guh-DAHN') says the Pakistani government is responsible for the deaths of more Muslims than what he refers to as the American "crusaders." DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan (AP) Palistani officials say militants today buried the bodies of Arab comrades who were among at least 20 people killed in a missile strike. The suspected U.S. missiles hit a house in North Waziristan near the Afghan border yesterday. The U.S. has launched a flurry of strikes against suspected al-Qaida and Taliban targets in recent weeks. BAGHDAD (AP) The U.S. military says it's killed the suspected mastermind of several terrorist attacks in Iraq, including this week's deadly bombings at two Shiite mosques. The military says the senior al-Qaida in Iraq figure was also involved in the videotaped executions of four kidnapped Russians. LAS VEGAS (AP) Defense attorneys say they'll appeal yesterday's jury verdicts that could send O.J. Simpson and a co-defendant to prison for life. They were convicted of robbing two sports-memorabilia dealers in Las Vegas. The defense says it was worried from the outset whether the jury could separate strong feelings about Simpson and judge him fairly. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
