Mumbai update...Iraq pact...Turkey travels

MUMBAI, India (AP) Indian commandos are apparently trying to retake a Mumbai Jewish center where suspected Muslim militants have been holed up. Sharpshooters have been keeping up a steady stream of fire at the five-story building. That assault came as commandos freed nearly two dozen captives from a nearby hotel. Meanwhile, more gunfire and explosions have been heard at the Taj Mahal hotel.

More than 100 people have died since the terror attacks began Wednesday.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) The Mumbai terror attacks threaten to chill improving ties between nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan. India has not singled out Pakistan as being linked to the strikes, but India's prime minister is blaming militants based outside his country. The remark was widely understood as an accusation aimed at Pakistan.

BAGHDAD (AP) Iraq's parliament has approved a pact that requires all U.S. troops to be out in three years, marking the first clear timetable for a U.S. exit since the 2003 invasion that ousted Saddam Hussein. The terms of the security pact reflect confidence that Iraq is increasingly ready to protect itself. One part of the deal lets U.S. forces withdraw from all Iraqi towns and cities by June 30.

CHICAGO (AP) Thursday was a busy day for food banks and shelters across the country. At the Chicago Christian Industrial League shelter, volunteers served more than 200 people in the first 40 minutes. An official says those fed include people who ate there last year and even some who had previously helped provide those meals.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) "Pumpkin" the turkey has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. He got a pardon from President George W. Bush at the White House earlier this week. Then he flew first-class to Los Angeles to be grand marshal of Disneyland's Thanksgiving Day parade. Next stop, he moves into his winter residence near Disneyland's seasonal display of live reindeer.
