Mumbai cleanup...Thailand standoff...OPEC meetingNov 29 2008 8:52AM
Associated Press MUMBAI, India (AP) It's feared India's death toll from the terrorist attacks in Mumbai will rise now that the shooting is over, and the clean up has begun. The current toll is at least 195, including six Americans. Officials say they believe the attacks were carried out by just 10 gunmen, and all but one of them were killed. Washington (AP) President George W. Bush has talked with U.S. officials in southern Asia about the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India. Among those taking part was America's ambassador to India. Bush is expected to make a statement about the attacks later today. President-elect Barack Obama called India's prime minister last night to offer condolences. MIRAN SHAH, Pakistan (AP) Another suspected U.S. missile strike is reported in northwest Pakistan. Pakistani intelligence officials say it destroyed a house in North Waziristan (vah-ZEER'-ih-stahn), killing at least two people. There's no word if they were militants. BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) Riot police in Thailand fled their checkpoint at one of Bangkok's two occupied airports after coming under attack from anti-government protesters. One protester appeared to fire a handgun. It's not clear yet if anyone was hurt. CAIRO, Egypt (AP) OPEC oil ministers meeting in Cairo appear to be focusing on $75 dollars as their desired price for a barrel of oil. That's about $20 higher than it is now. But the ministers will apparently hold off on any official action until another OPEC meeting Dec. 17. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 11-29-08 0847CST |
