War zone visit...Shoes thrown at Bush...No auto rescue yet...Dec 14 2008 12:01PM
Associated Press BAGHDAD (AP) President George W. Bush says there's still more work to be done in Iraq. On his last trip to the war zone as president, Bush says while the war is not over, the security agreement between the U.S. and Iraq security puts Iraq on solid footing for the future. BAGHDAD (AP) At a news conference in Baghdad with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, President George W. Bush had a pair of shoes thrown at him. Bush ducked and wasn't hit by either shoe and security officials dragged the man who threw them away. Bush joked about the incident, saying that all he could report was that it was a size 10. Washington (AP) The White House isn't expecting to make an announcement before tomorrow on a possible rescue plan for U.S. automakers. Officials are considering ways to offer emergency aid to General Motors and Chrysler. The carmakers say they could run out of cash within weeks. WASHINGTON (AP) Sen. John McCain is rejecting efforts to link President-elect Barack Obama to the corruption scandal surrounding Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (blah-GOY'-uh-vich). And he tells ABC he's confident the truth will come out. McCain adds that "it always does." UNDATED (AP) About 650,000 homes and businesses are still without power after last week's Northeast ice storm. Meanwhile, blizzard conditions are making travel treacherous in the northern Plains, where some interstates have been closed. Wind and plunging temperatures are making it feel like 35 below zero. A forecaster says people would need "two parkas." (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 12-14-08 1153CST |
