2 cougars killed in McKenzie County

2 cougars killed in McKenzie County Eds: APNewsNow.

Bismarck, N.D. (AP) The state Game and Fish Department says two more mountain lions have been killed in McKenzie County, leaving three left before the season in that area ends.

The animals were killed over the weekend in Zone 1, an area of the North Dakota badlands south of Williston. It includes Billings, Bowman, Dunn, Golden Valley, McKenzie and Slope counties. The quota there is eight mountain lions during a season.

The rest of the state, in Zone 2, has no quota.

Biologist Dorothy Fecske (FES'-kee) said one female mountain lion about 2 years old was killed Saturday along the Little Missouri River south of Watford City by Kevin and Loretta Wanner, who were bow hunting.

Fecske said the other mountain lion killed was a male about 2 years old. It was killed by Stacy Lehfledt of Mandan, a Marine on leave who was hunting deer near the river.
