DU land purchase subject of hearingJan 6 2009 6:11AM
Associated Press Steele, N.D. (AP) A group that advises the governor on proposed land purchases by nonprofits is holding a public hearing in Steele. The Natural Areas Acquisition Advisory Committee on Tuesday will consider a proposal by Ducks Unlimited to buy a 598-acre site in Kidder County. The property owned by Judith Hetleved of Bismarck includes land enrolled in the federal Conservation Reserve Program, pasture, wetlands and a 5-acre site with buildings. Ducks Unlimited says the land would be used for both Agriculture and wildlife production, and possibly hunting. The group says it would pay all taxes on the property. The committee is to make a recommendation to Gov. John Hoeven on the proposed purchase by Jan. 23. Hoeven will have the final say on whether the sale goes forward.
