KXMCTV Minot The National Weather Service projects river levels and the percentage chance that the river will hit flood stage which normally means very minor flooding. It also predicts the chances of even higher levels that could cause moderate flooding, or major flooding. The Weather Service puts the chance of major flooding west of Sherwood, where the Mouse enters the US from Canada, fairly low - at about 3%. But the chance of the river exceeding flood stage at the Sherwood location is nearly 100%. On the Mouse River east of Carpio, the chance of major flooding is almost 30% and the chance of exceeding flood stage is almost 100%. At the river gauge between Minot and Burlington, there is a 3% chance of major flooding, and about a 42% chance the river will go over flood stage. In the city of Minot, the chance of major flooding is put at 5% and the chance of hitting flood stage is 20%. In Logan, there's a 94% chance of reaching flood stage, but only a 5% chance of major flooding. At Sawyer, the report predicts a better-than 80% chance the Mouse reach flood stage, and a 10% chance of major flooding. At Velva, the Mouse is not expected to hit major flooding levels, but there's a 90% chance of hitting flood stage. In Towner, the chance of major flooding is close to 50-50 and there's a 100% chance of moderate flooding. And, at Westhope, where the river re-enters Canada, there'a a 70% chance of major flooding and moderate flooding is a near-certainty. Also today, the Weather Service predicted major flooding for both Grand Forks and Fargo on the Red River.
