KXMCTV Minot Brad Feldman has the latest from Bismarck. It's waiting to roar (Sound- rushing water x3) And in a few days...everything could be in place for this overgrown monster to strike again (Jim Peluso/ Burleigh County Commissioner) "I dont think anybody knows what is going to happen." The issue now the winter storm blowing across the state As much as eight to ten inches or even a foot could fall in areas already saturated with with problems (JP Martin/ National Weather Service) "Right now in the Bismarck-Mandan area our expectations is that the water equivalent in the snow will be a half in and three-quarters of an inch. That is significant from a storm." Martin says as the week goes on...the chances of a flood gets better....Martin forecasts the temperatures to rise to the upper forties and fifties (JP Martin/ National Weather Service) "Fresh snow melts much faster than ice on the ground or old snow. So again the melting will be rapid come Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday" Forcing more water and ice down streams already topped off Of the three rivers that pour into the Missouri River...Its the Knife River creating the most concern (Todd Sando/ ND State Water Commission) "The concerns up there is there is a lot of snowpack there right now even before this next snowfall event and in the fact the water equivalency in a big portion of the water shed is four to six inches of moisture." It's this Perfect Storm Areas already soaked, a major winter storm, and rising temperatures sending water and ice into an already jumbled mess- that officials want you to be on the lookout.. Brad Feldman KX News Officials say if you were in the flood warning area this past week you need to take precautions. If you sandbagged around your house leave the bags where they are. More sandbags will be available at the Bismarck Landfill if needed.
