Sawyer Flood Clean-Up

The clean up has begun in many areas now that the Mouse River is back in its banks.

However when the Mouse was at full roar the river did do quite a bit of damage to homes and property.

Shaun Sipma takes to the Sawyer area with a look at the mess left behind.

(Brian Lagge, Lives near Sawyer) "Friday Morning is when I got a good look at it wasn't good."

Wasn't good in any sense

Brian Lagge's tour through their flooded property on the west edge of Sawyer revealed that the foundation on his fathers home has succumb to the flood water.

(Brian Lagge, Lives near Sawyer) "The basement's caved in on one wall, the sewer systems, the wells."

All damaged by the muddy mouse that roared through here for nearly five days

Lagge says this house had survived five prior floods, but now his family is waiting on word from FEMA to begin the rebuilding process.

(Doug Jonnston, Lives East of Sawyer) "It had about four foot of water in the barn."

To the east beyond the city of Sawyer at the Johnston Farm.

(Doug Jonnston, Lives East of Sawyer) "Last few days its dropped phenomenally since yesterday it's probably dropped 10 feet."

We followed the Johnston home as they sandbags before the rivers rise and even during crest of the Mouse

Now the Johnstons are getting a good look at that was behind as the waters receded.

(Doug Jonnston, Lives East of Sawyer) "Our well took a hit, it flooded, our septic system basically washed out. We kept that at bay it didn't come back into the house. All in all we feel pretty fortunate."

However, their shop, barns, corrals, all are now thick with mud

The landscape is littered with debris and they expect weeks if not months of work to clean up or pick up all that washed in or washed out by the Mouse.
