County Updates Flooding Situation

Flood waters may have fallen, but cleanup is far from over throughout the area.

In a meeting of the Ward County Commission today, officials gave reports on cleanup efforts within the county.

Ward County Emergency Manager Al Reynolds, says cleanup of the All Seasons Arena began yesterday to remove dirt left by the sandbag filling operation.

Commissioner John Fjeldahl asked who would conduct the final inspection of the facility? Reynolds says he feels it should be approved by the fair's manager, but they will clarify that decision before the work is complete.

In addition, the county will be placing a bid for cleanup work at the old Burlington Fire Hall.

Flooding has also left plenty of damage along county roadways.

Highway Engineer, Dana Larsen, says funding and reimbursement should be available for the repairs, but he recommends getting started as soon as possible.

(Dana Larsen, Ward Co. Highway Engineer) "And I guess what I'm requesting is permission to use contractors off of our annual bid list, that we approved here a couple of months ago, for the smaller sites we'll need some assistance, just use the hourly rental rates. And for bigger ones, I'm gonna request to use proposals, like the first one on the page, I'd request proposals from area contractors to repair that and do it site by site."

The Ward County commission voted unanimously to approve Larsen's request for bids and proposals on county road repair.

County officials will also hold a meeting tomorrow with the Army Corps of Engineers to form a disposal plan for remaining sandbags. watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list
