CANDISC Running North to Metigoshe

They call it the "Plains to Mountains."

The 2007 CANDISC Bike Tour is traveling to the Turtle Mountains this year on a 400 mile ride that will finish back at Garrison this weekend.

Clayton Clark caught up with the bikers today as they headed north toward Towner...

(Clayton Clark, KX News) More than 400 bikers from 30 states took off on day 2 of CANDISC this morning traveling from Velva to Towner. But why would people come from all over the U.S. to bike in North Dakota?

(John Enstad, Minneapolis) Its got a beauty in its own way. Different that the cornfields of Iowa or the cornfields of Minnesota, but its still beautiful.

(Clayton Clark, KX News) It takes more than a friendly hello to peddle 402 miles. These Cyclists have trained many years and many miles in order to complete this week long tour.

(John Enstad, Minneapolis) Yeah we do about 2000 miles a year and we got about 16000 miles on the bike so far.

(Clayton Clark, KX News) People ride bicycles for many different reasons. Some for the beautiful scenery, some just for the fun, and some for their health.

(Roger Wait, Wichita, Kansas) I had or I have heart problems and this seems to help that and I quit for about three years, started having problems with Diabetes so I got started again.

(Clayton Clark, KX News) Roger Wait is in his first year at the CANDISC Bike tour and he plans to make it a new family tradition.

(Roger Wait, Wichita, Kansas) My wife wasn't able to come this year. I believe we'll come back next year and both of us try to ride it or I can sag her next year and she can ride it or whatever. But yeah we've enjoyed the trip.

(Clayton Clark, KX News) Hundreds of people have similar stories....stories that spread among bikers' across the nation and keep them coming back to CANDISC year after year. Near Karlsruhe, Clayton Clark KX News.

Today's leg of the tour was the shortest of the week at 44 miles.

Tomorrow the bikers will head 73 miles to Lake Metigoshe State Park. watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list
