Rove: Courts will have to decide his subpoenaMay 25 2008 12:36PM
Associated Press President Bush's former chief political adviser told ABC's "This Week" program today that he only learned about the investigation and indictment of Don Siegelman "by reading about it in the newspaper." Siegelman was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for a 2006 bribery conviction. He was released in March thanks to a federal appeals court ruling. He has accused Republican operatives of pushing his prosecution. Rove also told ABC today that it will be up to the courts to decide whether he should have to testify to Congress. He says a House panel wants to be able to call White House aides to testify on a "whim." Last week, the panel ordered Rove to appear in July. Lawmakers want to ask him about the Siegelman case and about the White House role in firing nine U.S. attorneys. % |
