Airplane race to be held over stateJun 11 2008 7:14AM
Associated Press ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) Aberdeen will be a checkpoint in an all-woman airplane race this month from Montana to Massachusetts. The Air Race Classic will clock the amount of time it takes a racer to go from one checkpoint to the next. Aberdeen is one of nine cities listed as checkpoints. Pilots are not required to stop at the checkpoints. They simply must fly over a runway so a spotter can see them and record their times. Many of the planes, however, are expected to overnight in Aberdeen on June 24. Thirty-six planes will compete in the race. There are no South Dakota teams.
