First wind turbine installed on reservationJul 5 2008 8:24AM
Associated Press The project began in 2002, when an instrument was placed near KILI to measure wind potential. The device determined the best placement for the turbine. The turbine is expected to provide about 92,000 kilowatt hours of power each year, which KILI officials hope will cut the station's annual electric bill by about $12,000. Any power that is not used by the station will be sold back to local electric utility LaCreek Electric for its customers. The turbine, capable of generating as much as 65 kilowatts of electricity, is located on a small hill near the tribal radio station. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
