LAS VEGAS (AP) Polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs has been taken from jail to a Las Vegas hospital for an unspecified medical problem. Jeffs was convicted by a Utah jury last year on two counts of first-degree felony rape. He was sentenced to two consecutive terms of five years to life for his role in the 2001 marriage of a 14-year-old follower to her 19-year-old cousin.

Washington (AP) A senior general says the size of Iraq's security forces have grown by more than a quarter in the past year to 566,000. And Army Lieutenant General James Dubik says they're improving their ability to execute operations on their own. But he'll tell Congress on Wednesday they'll still need U.S. aid for the foreseeable future.

TOYAKO, Japan (AP) A gathering of major developed and developing nations has agreed that climate change is "one of the great global challenges of our time." And it pledges to back a U.N. effort to conclude a new climate pact by 2009. But the developing economies aren't backing the G-8 goal of cutting greenhouse-gas emissions by half by mid-century.

BIG SUR, Calif (AP) A heat wave is forecast to linger in much of California until the weekend and that's making the job of fighting the state's 330 active wildfires all the more difficult. A wind-stoked blaze northeast of Sacramento has burned 40 homes and is threatening thousands more.

NEW YORK (AP) A new study says women probably aren't saving enough to bankroll their retirement years in style. It says because women live an average of 22 years after retirement versus 19 years for men, they need to save two percent more than men every year over 30 years to maintain their standard of living after they stop working.
