Wolves kill livestock near Florence, SuperiorJul 11 2008 4:28PM
Associated Press HELENA, Mont. (AP) State wildlife officials say wolves have killed two calves near Florence and a heifer near Superior. USDA Wildlife Services confirmed the 600-pound heifer was killed by wolves on private land west of Superior on Thursday. Following the depredation, the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks authorized the agency to kill one wolf from the Superior pack. Wildlife Services killed an adult gray wolf near the dead heifer on Friday. FWP also authorized the agency to kill two to three wolves from the Brooks Creek pack, believed to be responsible for the deaths of two calves on private land in the Bitterroot Valley. Wildlife Services killed one wolf in the vicinity on Friday. Officials say control efforts will continue if wolves remain in the area.
