Northwood woman says town helped cope with husband's death...Aug 24 2008 4:35PM
Associated Press NORTHWOOD, N.D. (AP) A woman whose husband was killed in the Northwood Tornado last August says his death is still hard to accept. But she gets help from her community. Annie Mercer-Weisz (WYS) has a long list of things good deeds from her neighbors. She got help finding a house, help with her lawn and garden, help with her roof. Her husband, Larry, died when their mobile home was thrown into a large tree by 150 mile-an-hour winds last August. In his memory, Annie commissioned a chain saw artist to make a Sculpture out of a tornado-damaged elm in her yard. The tree stump has been shaped into a black funnel above a mobile home and the date "8-26-07." The 58-year-old widow says even people who don't like her are nice to her. In her words, "because of this town, I'm doing pretty good." Information from: Grand Forks Herald, http://www.grandforksherald.com (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
