However, a levee in southeastern Louisiana is in danger of collapse, and officials are scrambling to fortify it. ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) Republicans have opened their storm-shortened national convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. First lady Laura Bush and John McCain's wife, Cindy, joined to urge Americans to help hurricane victims. (AP) More than 50 people have been arrested after demonstrations near the Republican National Convention site turned violent. Protesters harassed some delegates, smashed windows, slashed car tires and threw bottles. LAS VEGAS (AP) Jerry Lewis has raised a record 65 million dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in his annual Labor Day telethon.
