Abu Ghraib prison to again hold inmates, also a museum...Sep 4 2008 4:13PM
Associated Press BAGHDAD (AP) The Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq is undergoing a facelift. Plans call for the facility to be ready for new inmates in about a year. Another part of the site will contain a museum that will document the crimes of Saddam Hussein, but not the abuses committed at the prison by U.S. guards. It will feature execution chamber exhibits and other displays of torture tools used by Saddam's regime. Iraq's deputy justice minister says the mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. soldiers at the prison was "nothing" compared with the violence and atrocities of Saddam and his Baath party. It's not clear whether the museum will be open to the public. % |
