KXMBTV Bismarck Hundreds of Dancers will perform for the audience throughout the weekend. This morning, a few of those dancers took some time to teach area students about their dance and culture. About twelve hundred students from Bismarck-Mandan and surrounding communities are taking part in youth day. Organizers of the powwow say this is one of the most important events each year. (Julie Cain/ Youth Day) "Its all based on respect to respect each others cultures and knowing that there are native americans in their schools and learn what their rich heritage is and to learn about them and respect." This years featured performers are from the Sami (saw-me) Culture. It features a father and her two daughters who represent the culture of the indigenous European people. They will be performing tonight at nine-thirty at the Lone Star Arena on the United Tribes Technical College Campus. They will also be performing at six on Saturday evening and three-thirty on Sunday afternoon.
