Russian ship docks with space stationOct 14 2008 12:09PM
Associated Press Space tourist Richard Garriott floated onto the orbital outpost 35 years after his astronaut father circled the Earth on Skylab. The computer game designer had paid a reported $30 million for the privilege. He called it the fulfillment of his childhood dream of space travel. He was greeted by Russian cosmonaut Sergei Volkov, whose father had flown three space missions. Their proud fathers watched via a screen at Russian Mission Control outside Moscow. They both also admit they're considering whether they'd like to return to space. Garriott is starting a 10-day stay on the station. Also aboard are U.S. astronaut Michael Fincke and Russian cosmonaut Yuri Lonchakov. They will replace the station's current crew and spend several months in orbit. % |
