W. Virginia town shrugs at poorest health rankingNov 16 2008 6:58PM
Associated Press Nearly half the adults in Huntington's five-county metropolitan area are obese, thanks to fatty diets and lack of exercise. That's an astounding percentage, far bigger than the national average, in a country with a well-known weight problem. Huntington leads in a-half-dozen other illness measures, too, including heart disease and Diabetes. It's even tops in the percentage of elderly people who have lost all their teeth. About half of them have. As for the healthiest city in America? It appears to be Burlington, Vt. The state's largest city is tops among U.S. metropolitan areas by having the largest proportion of people who say they are in good or great health, 92 percent. It's also among the best in exercise and among the lowest in such measures of ill health as obesity and diabetes. % |
