Red Lake Band gets $31M loan for projectsNov 18 2008 8:40PM
Associated Press Red Lake, Minn. (AP) The Red Lake Band of Chippewa is getting a $31 million loan from another Minnesota tribe for three projects, including a new casino and hotel. The band is building a $21.7 million casino, hotel and event center along state Highway 89 on the southern border of the reservation. The new Red Lake Seven Clans Casino and Hotel will replace the band's existing casino at Red Lake, a converted gymnasium that opened about 15 years ago. The new casino will be seven miles closer to Bemidji. It's expected to open in late 2009. The remaining $9.2 million of the loan will be used for construction of a tribal law enforcement center and a greenhouse. The Shakopee Mdewakanton (mehd-WAH'-kuh-tuhn) Sioux Community is making the loan. Information from: Pioneer, http://www.bemidjipioneer.com (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press.
