Obama to fight terror...Pakistan will avoid nukes...More protests

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) Aides to Afghan President Hamid Karzai say President-elect Barack Obama has made fighting terrorism in Afghanistan and the region a top priority. The two leaders spoke by phone Saturday.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) Pakistan's president is vowing that in any future conflict with India, Pakistan won't be the country that uses nuclear weapons first. That came in a video conference Q&A with an Indian newspaper (The Hindustan Times). India's nuclear doctrine already states it'll never strike first with nuclear weapons.

LIMA, Peru (AP) President Bush will be meeting with Peru's leader this morning before wrapping up the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit later today. This morning's meeting is expected to center on the topic of free trade, which Bush has been pushing throughout the weekend.

TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) One person is dead, another in critical condition after they were shot inside a shopping mall near Seattle.

No arrests have been made but police say they expect that to change soon. They add the shootings may have been gang related.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) Thousands protested outside California's capitol yesterday in Sacramento in the latest display of outrage at the state's new ban on gay marriage. The California Supreme Court just said it'll hear three legal challenges seeking to override the constitutional ban that just passed.
