ALTERNATIVE: FORMER WILCO GUITARIST DIED OF ACCIDENTAL OVERDOSE URBANA, Ill. (AP) Authorities say former Wilco guitarist Jay Bennett died of an overdose of a painkiller and they're treating his death as an accident. A coroner has determined Bennett died from fentanyl, a drug found in patches commonly prescribed for chronic pain. ROCK: JACK WHITE AND JIMMY PAGE TALK GUITARS IN UPCOMING Film BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) Jack White feels if he's not fighting with an instrument, he's not really learning it. White says if he's trying an instrument that's too nice and too much in tune, he has to turn it upside down and make it a fight. Otherwise, he feels like he's not doing his job. White appears in an upcoming guitar documentary called "It Might Get Loud" with The Edge of U2 and Jimmy Page. Page says the appeal of electric guitars to him is that every player, from amateurs to pros, have their own characteristics that come through their sound. He's got dozens in his personal collection, but he admits most of them are for sentimental reasons. He says if he narrowed it down to the ones he played it would be just a few.

POP: WILL.I.AM IS TOLD HIP-HOP IS DEAD NEW YORK (AP) The world may not have known about "Boom Boom Pow" if someone hadn't told will.i.am that hip-hop is dead. He was in Australia and went to clubs to hear the latest hip-hop. The locals told him no one listened to hip-hop. They took him to a club in Sydney that played hard-core electronic music. A light bulb went off over his head. He says it "felt like hip-hop but there were no vocals," and it reminded him of when hip-hop was Dance-oriented.

Will.i.am got to work. He says the Black Eyed Peas album "The E.N.D." is "paying homage to where hip-hop came from."
