Wild G Nicklas Backstrom injured; Schaefer recalled from Houston

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) The Minnesota Wild recalled goaltender Nolan Schaefer from the minor league Houston Aeros after starting goalie Niklas Backstrom suffered a groin injury in practice today.

Backstrom will not dress for tomorrow's game against the Colorado Avalanche.

The 27-year-old Schaefer is 1-2-and-0 with a 3.90 goals-against average and a .892 save percentage in three games for the Aeros this season. This is his first recall to the Wild, who signed him as a free agent in July.

He was San Jose's fifth-round pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and is 5-1-and-0 with a 1.88 goals-against average in seven career NHL games, all with San Jose.
