PHILADELPHIA (AP) We're closing in on the restart of the baseball postseason, with Philadelphia getting ready to host Los Angeles in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series. The visiting Dodgers have been idle since Sunday when they completed a sweep of the Cubs in the division series. The Phillies polished off Milwaukee a day later by winning Game 4 of their best-of-five opening-round playoff.

ST. PETERSBURG (AP) Both teams in the American League playoffs worked out today at Tropicana Field. The series between the defending World Series champion Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays begins tomorrow night.

CARNEGIE, Pa. (AP) Former big league pitcher Bruce Dal Canton has died of cancer at age 66. He was a high school teacher who turned a good showing at a tryout camp into a lengthy career as a major league pitcher and coach. From 1967 through 1977 he played with Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Atlanta and the Chicago White Sox.

IRVING, Texas (AP) The Cowboys have no official comment on the latest incident involving Adam "Pacman" Jones and the cornerback wasn't in the locker room today to address a recent scuffle with his bodyguard at a Dallas hotel. The police are calling it a private matter that will not lead to charges but it's unclear how it might affect Jones' NFL status. Jones missed all of last season with Tennessee after being suspended by commissioner Roger Goodell (guh-DEHL') for an accumulation of off-field problems.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) Number 21 Wake Forest is getting set to host Clemson in the kickoff of this week's top-25 football schedule. It's a precursor to Saturday's action which will see Number 1 Oklahoma playing 5th-ranked Texas in Dallas,Number 3 Missouri hosting 17th-ranked Oklahoma State and Number 4 LSU playing at 11th-ranked Florida.
