Cheryl Bergian Attacked for Her Religious Beliefs

Scott Hennen, the conservative running the “Hot Talk” Fargo-area morning show, made a blog post saying Cheryl Bergian is unfit for serving on the Public Service Commission because of “he [sic] leadership in the no-rules, anything goes Unitarian church.”

Instead of pointing out issues surrounding the election, he slams the Unitarian Universalist church, much like another conservative once tried.

A sure sign you’re winning: they do this to you.

Hennen (and Governor Hoeven, apparently) also try to make hay out of her work at the North Dakota Human Right’s Committee. Yeah, Cheryl! You suck for promoting democracy, personal freedom, and tolerance!

Hennen’s full post after the “More” tag.

The Hoeven Report

I’m not sure why the media hasn’t noticed but Governor Hoeven is out making the case for some key members of his state team. A friend from Minot emailed me a summary of some of the Governors comments from a rally there:

A few notable comments (paraphrased): Stood up for Al Jaeger, who does a great job and is really being targeted by a negative campaigner this year. Cory Fong: great public servant, great administrator and helping keep a tax department that is an important partner in economic development and job growth. Tony Clark: Great expertise in some of the most important and complex fields that state government deals with. If you want an expert in growing the state’s important, job-producing energy industry, you elect Tony. If you want someone whose expertise is in hot-button social activism, gay marriage debates, getting in arguments over the Ten Commandments, etc. then his opponent is the one who knows about that - but we’re electing a Public Service Commissioner Tuesday, which doesn’t have a whole lot to do with it

I’m not sure why these comments have not been reported elsewhere. But when the states top-elected official stands up against attacks on his team…that is news in my book. As for the remarks about Cheryl Bergian (Tony Clarks opponent) the Governor could not be more right. As I said previously, she is best known in Fargo for her argument that gay partners with children should be defined as a family, and recieve the appropriate discount. Or he leadership in the no-rules, anything goes Unitarian church. How would that experience help her on the PSC?
