Lawmakers hear about a new drugJan 31 2007 11:15PM
KXMBTV Bismarck It's called salvia divinorum. Lawmakers get a lesson on what it is and what it does today. A bill would make the plant illegal. No one who testified in support of the bill really knows much about salvia divinorum, other than what they've found on the internet. According to Wikipedia, salvia divinorum gives users a psychedelic experience. The peak is felt a minute after it's consumed. It can be chewed, swallowed or crushed to be smoked. (Sen. Randy Christmann / (R) Hazen) "This idea came from a superintendent who contacted me and was aware of some school students using this and felt we need to stop this before it gets to be a huge problem not after it gets to be a huge problem." We even found salvia divinorum plants for sale on ebay. Salvia is considered a controlled substance in six states. Jeff White with BCI says one sample has been sent into the state crime lab.

in other words dont ban salvia and legalize the medical use of cannibus-peace
well banning the herb is only going to draw alot more attention to it, it will be sought after via the black market, you will here of more and more people using it. Sen. Randy Christmann why don't you go attack substances that actually are dangerous like alcohol for instance which kills an average of 85,000 people a year. Or maybe you can lash out at the tobacco companies, oh wait you can't do that because you would lose credibility among your fellow republicans.
Salvia is never going to be a "huge problem". It's never going to be widely used or used regularly by any one person. Most people I've known that have used it have only done it once. You guys are probably right that making it illegal will probably draw more people to it, and for sure it isn't going to prevent someone who wants to use it from using it. Just another example of making more criminals out of people that are not really criminals. Salvia is legal right now, it's not ruining our society is it?
it doesnt really matter the countrys (maybe the worlds) downfall is at hand their wont be retarded laws of such (or any most likely)
in the future
-non-toxic
-non-addictive
-the only conceivable downside is a slight increase a pulse pressure, something that needs to be studied further
Salvia divinorum is safe. People can die from an overdose of alcohol or nicotine, or even(in rare cases caffeine)
There is no sufficient reason to ban such a relatively harmless substance.
