Fitterer Twins Doing GreatJun 14 2007 7:06PM
KXMBTV Bismarck They shared a chest wall. The girls were separated at the Mayo Clinic the beginning of January. And five months later they're stronger than ever... Here's an update. It's this video that's engrained in our hearts and minds... January third the Fitterer twins headed into surgery at the Mayo clinic Rochester and were separated. Today, you would never guess.. (13:20) "Can I get a five?" They can't walk yet, but they can still get around.. (12:37) "They'll do a wrestlers bridge and push off with their feet. They can get to where they want to when there's something they wanna get." And just like all sisters they fight over toys a fight Matty usually wins.. (11:00) Matty's feisty, she's learned that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, she's more verbal and the lover The girls came home in February. And there's only been one setback (6:53) Right when they got home they did get RSV. We kinda had the right away who do we call? Do we call Mayo or do we call Medcenter. We had to work that out. But, I think given the girls history we ended up getting oxygen in the home and hooked them up to nebulizers. We just kept them at home and got'em through it (16:50) Every obstacle they've come through with flying colors The girls visit the doctors every three months. They'll go back to Mayo in October for another check-up. All signs point to two healthy girls (8:17) It's wait and see. We don't know how the gortex in their chest is going to hold. The last visit we had though everything looked really good. We know that they're both going to have future surgeries its just when and where Dad says it's been the longest year of his life. The girls have been through so much and their not even a year old...but now look at them.. (16:50) I guess I always thought we would get to this point. I never thought the worst (8:03)"When do you quit worrying? (Suzy Fitterer) I think when they're married, no even then we'll worry." The family says they can't thank everybody enough. They say the support from doctors, family, friends and the community has been amazing. There will be a fundraiser for the family in the cash wise food parking lot tomorrow. There will be hot-dogs, chips and pop and a free will offering. It starts at 10:30 and will last through the day.
