Hostfest OpensOct 10 2007 7:43PM
KXMCTV Minot I decided to show you what kinds of things are available bright and early here at Hostfest. And, as you'll see, pretty much everything is in high gear not long after sunrise. (Jim Olson, KX News) The entryways were packed at 9-am on this first full day of Norsk Hostfest (Where are you from?) "Oregon." (Been here before?) "No!" (Well, you're in for some fun) "You bet!" (Jim Olson, KX News) People from across the continent and around the world were filing in to get the festival started. And the first people they eoncountered were volunteers (Have you volunteered here for a long time?) "Every year for about the last ten years I would say." (Why do you keep doing it?) "I like it, it's fun, you meet lots of people." (Jim Olson, KX News) Thousands of volunteers make Hostfest happen each year. They work for the festival - and they work for various groups that sponsor booths - like the Icelandic booth that was selling breakfast "The Icelandic thin pancake and you can have it served rolled with sugar, or with strawberries and whipped cream." "Strawberries and whipped cream." (We'll get back to you for a report) "Oh, I've had it before, and it's good." "It's delicious, it is delicious." (You want some of that, Gaylen?) (Jim Olson, KX News) Of course, you don't have to be of Icelandic heritage to enjoy it (What's the best part of the pancake?) "It's almost like a Swedish pancake." (Jim Olson, KX News) Early morning at Hostfest includes music on several free stages too - such as the Rekjavik stage where teenager Leah Durelle had packed the house.
