Velva Students Visit HostfestOct 12 2007 11:20PM
KXMCTV Minot That's why a group of students from Velva were here today. Clayton Clark was there for the learning experience here's what he saw... (Clayton Clark, KX News) "The Hostfest provides a lot of insight in to heritage and history. And why not start learning that history when you're in second grade. That's what a group of Velva second grade teachers thought when they brought their class to the Hostfest today to get a great hands on learning experience." (Rhoda Hagen, Velva Teacher) "They go around to all of the different artists and ask questions and learn all they can. it's the best place to get a lot of experts all under one roof. They's very excited, they've been learning about it for a month now and they could hardly wait." (Clayton Clark, KX News) "The Kids gathered round as they learned the history of carving wood and how spoons came about. Hopefully they will remember that with their next bowl of Lucky Charms." (Harley Refsal, Wood Carver) "There's a lot of us here that are long in the tooth and I think it's really important to be able to pass on the traditions and our love for heritage crafts and traditions generally. I hope they might remember where the word spoon comes from. That it comes from spon the shaving." (Clayton Clark, KX News) "There's three keys to success when you're a second grader at the Hostfest and no one said it better then Sam." (Sam Pfenning, Velva Student) "I just want to have fun, look at stuff, and ask questions." (Clayton Clark, KX News) "And maybe someday he could learn how to carve something of his own." (Sam Pfenning, Velva Student) "I'd maybe carve horses, little pastures or little places. " (Clayton Clark, KX News) "Now that Harley has passed on the art to these young girls and boys. It is up to them to keep the tradition alive. At the hostfest, Clayton Clark, KX News."
