Eye on Health - Exercise Is MedicineMay 11 2009 8:05AM
KXMCTV Minot Perry Olson tells us why May get you jumpstarted to a healthier lifestyle in tonight's Eye on Health. Why were so many people out enjoying a walk in the park last week in Minot? Why because it's May!... "May is Exercise is Medicine month. To celebrate that we are getting doctors and their patients out and start walking in the park to kick off the month and its focus on exercise as medicine. We decided to meet for our hour and luckily the weather was great." Exercise is Medicine month a time to make a change in your life as the weather changes both for the good by the way... "What we are trying to tell them this month is that they don't need to buy all the fancy equipment or go to the gym. They need to spend 30 min. a day five days a week and get exercise. Bike, walk...just be active. The benefits of being active show up at that 30 minute mark." Be it 10 minutes three times a day...just make sure you hit that magical 30 mark. Doing so can lead to decreased problems from high blood pressure, Diabetes, ostoperosis...Dr. Matterns says the list is endless. And Kathy Hoaglund believes her. (Kathy Hoaglund - Minot) "Ever since I started walking I feel better. I made a New Year's resolution to walk everyday and I've been doing it 45 minutes to an hour everyday now." And that simple change has meant a much better quality of life. "I feel so much better when I walk." So make sure you take advantage of 'Exercise is Medicine' month and make a change in your life.
