Eye on Health - Flu UpdateJun 7 2009 11:07PM
KXMCTV Minot In todays Eye on Health, Perry Olson has the latest numbers and an update on what is known about this latest flu bug. News nationally of H1N1 is certainly dying down...and that is a good thing as is why, most likely we dont hear that much about it anymore... (Danell Ecklund) "We are not seeing as many deaths with this flu as we do with the normal seasonal flu...that kills 36 thousand every year." (Dr. Casamir Nwaigwe) "It is not anything worse than the regular flu that comes every winter season and it tends to affect the healthiest of the population...teenagers and people in middle age." That of course doesnt mean this is something to take lightly...especially in Ward County, the spot in North Dakota with the most cases 9 confirmed and 2 probable... (Danell Eklund - First Dist. Health Unit) "You are actually spreading symptoms a day before you get sick so if you keep that in mind, and think you could be sick already and spreading germs already and just be very careful. Now that summer reportedly is around the corner, medical experts believe that the H1N1 bug will become much less of a problem in the country but like the regular flu... (Dr. Casmiar Nwaigwe) So far there is every indication that there will be a pick up of activity during the winter and the regular flu season. Dr. Nwaigwe says there will still be isolated cases but that slowdown should come...and when it rears its ugly head again later, there should be ammunition against it... (Dr. Nwaigwe) There should be a vaccine. The CDC is working with a company to speed up production so it will be available before the next flu season. So the Swine Flu can be a thing of the past.
