IAEA on Iran...Pakistan clashes...Capt. Richard Phillips...Oct 21 2009 6:53AM
Associated Press VIENNA (AP) The International Atomic Energy Agency says Iran is agreeing to a draft plan that would export most of its enriched uranium. Diplomats report that the U.N. atomic agency says the proposed deal would strip Tehran of most of the material it would need to make a nuclear weapon. PARAChinaR, Pakistan (AP) There's word that Pakistani soldiers are gaining ground during a fierce fight in the hometown of Pakistan's Taliban leader. The advances come as intelligence officials report that suspected U.S. missiles killed three alleged militants in a nearby region. Washington (AP) The former head of the Obama administration's auto task force says he was alarmed by what he calls "stunningly poor management" at the Detroit carmakers. In an account posted on Fortune's Web site, Steven Rattner says GM had "perhaps the weakest" financial operation he'd ever seen in a major company. WASHINGTON (AP) A government watchdog says the $700 billion financial industry bailout played a major role in rescuing the economy. But the report also says the secrecy and confusion surrounding the program cost the government some credibility. UNDERHILL, Vt. (AP) Six months after his rescue after being captured by Somali pirates, Capt. Richard Phillips is considering a career change. With a book deal and a possible movie in the works, Phillips says that, after 30 years at sea, "maybe it's time to do something else." (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
