Miss. gov. plans session for manufacturing plantOct 21 2009 1:46PM
Associated Press By EMILY WAGSTER PETTUS Associated Press Writer JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour has told a gathering of business leaders that he will call a special legislative session late next week for a $300 million economic development project in the Delta. Barbour told the Mississippi Economic Council gathering on Wednesday that the project will create up to 500 jobs in five years. He did not say what kind of company but said the plant would be a sophisticated manufacturing facility. He did say the project is not a car plant being considered by a Chinese businessman for Tunica County. Barbour would not discuss the incentives he will ask lawmakers to provide. He said the state's share would be no more than 10 percent of the overall project. Barbour said he would call lawmakers in on Oct. 29 or Oct. 30. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press.
