Associated Press EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) Canadian authorities say a man who barricaded himself with eight hostages inside the Edmonton Workers' Compensation building has surrendered, 10 hours after the drama began. Police say none of the hostages, who were released throughout the day, was harmed. ORANGE PARK, Fla. (AP) The search for a missing 7-year-old Florida girl has turned up the body of a child in a Georgia landfill. Authorities have yet to identify the remains. They've been looking for Somer Thompson since she vanished on Monday. TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) Three Ohio men convicted of plotting to recruit and train terrorists to kill U.S. soldiers in Iraq have been sentenced in federal court. One defendant received a 20-year term, while another got 12 years. The third man was sentenced to eight years and four months. Washington (AP) The Obama administration is calling for an overhaul of college programs that prepare teachers. Officials call the programs cash cows that do a mediocre job of preparing teachers for the classroom. SHANGHAI (AP) Officials say China's economy charged ahead in the third quarter, expanding by 8.9 percent.
