Enough votes?...Dow soars...Big snowstormOct 29 2009 6:54PM
Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) Investors are feeling bullish after a government report showing the economy was stronger than expected during the summer. The Dow climbed 200 points today and recouped most of its losses for the week. Government stimulus programs including the popular Cash for Clunkers auto rebates and tax credits for first-time home buyers bolstered the economy. WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama says the sight of 18 flag-covered cases holding the remains of Americans killed this week in Afghanistan will have an influence on his thinking about sending more troops overseas. Obama made a middle-of-the-night trip to Delaware's Dover Air Force Base to observe the return of the fallen Americans. DENVER (AP) A powerful snowstorm that blanketed parts of Colorado is bringing blizzard-like conditions into Nebraska and Kansas. The autumn storm has forced flight cancelations, road closures and school closings. LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) A Florida man who has spent 6 years creating the world's largest rubber band ball says he's a little sad to see it go. The Guinness Book of World Records hauled it away today on a large flatbed truck. The ball stands more than 6 feet and tips the scales at just over 9,000 pounds.
