5th Bomb Wing Commander Fired

For the second time this month, a commander at Minot Air Force Base has been relieved of duty.

Colonel Joel Westa, commander of the 5th Bomb Wing, was fired from his job today.

A press release from the 8th Air Force says Colonel Westa was removed from command for an inabilityt to foster a culture of excellence.

The release noted the recent finding that the new 69th Bomb Squadron was not ready to perform its nuclear mission as a contributing factor to Colonel Westa's dismissal.

The move comes after the commander of the 91st Missile Wing, Colonel Christopher Ayres was relieved of command in mid-October.

The new commander of the 5th Bomb Wing is Colonel Douglas Cox, formerly the vice commander of Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list
