(AP) The moment Justine Henin realized her tennis career wasn't finished came this past June, when she watched Roger Federer finally hoist the French Open trophy, the one Grand Slam title missing from his mantle. Her passion for the game suddenly returned. In an interview with The Associated Press at her central Florida training site, Henin said she wouldn't be returning to tennis if she didn't believe she could win Wimbledon and complete her own career grand slam even as soon as next year. Henin retired in May 2008, the first woman to walk away while ranked No. 1 by the WTA. Henin said Saturday she left because she needed to realize she could do more than just play tennis. She also said she was exhausted and didn't enjoy playing any more. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 10-31-09 1242CDT |
