Community Action Partnership Savings ProgramOct 31 2009 7:22PM
KXMCTV Minot But thanks to a new influx of federal funding, nonprofit North Dakota Community Action Partnership is offering a way for individuals to participate in a special savings program. The state and federal government money will match every dollar individuals put away into these accounts for at least six months. After two years, if you can save $2,000, or about $25 per month, the matched money would mean you can cash out for up to $6,000 to buy a home, start or expand a local business, or, perhaps the most popular option, use toward education. (Willy Soderholm / Exec. Director - Community Action Partnership) "You could have a sophomore or junior in high school and if you start the program at that time, during those two years before they are college-bound, you could have up to $6,000, you could call it a scholarship or you could call it a savings program." Another requirement of an IDA account is that the money is kept in-state. Soderholm estimates to qualify, a single person would need to make less than $26,000 per year, and a family of four would be capped off at a $44,000 yearly income.
