Yankee fan has amazing collectionNov 2 2009 7:03PM
KXMBTV Bismarck living rooms, laundry rooms, bathrooms.... but Gene Severson of Bismarck has a house with a unique room. A Yankees Room. The former Governors coach has turned his basement into what he and his wife call 'the Yankee Museum,' and they are not kidding. Photos, bobbleheads, autographs and even a seat from the original Yankee Stadium. Severson's love for the Bronx Bomber's began back in the 1950's, and his collecting began in the early 80's when the Govs had qualified for the Central Plains Regional in St. Louis. "(Gene Severson:) The hotel next the airport or on the airport grounds, I can't remember which, was hosting the National Convention, the National Sports Card Convention at that time, and we went over and spent some time and see some of the things that are available and that really sparked the interest, so I started at that point and this is kind of what it has grow to. " Severson says the 1961 season, where North Dakota native Roger Maris broke the single season home run record was probably his favorite time as a fan. His favorite peice of memorabilia is a jersey signed by Mickey Mantle. He's hoping his team can make it a 'November to Remember' tonight and close out the World Series, and yes, he'll be watching from his 'museum.'
