Day Remembers DeadNov 2 2009 7:18PM
KXMCTV Minot Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a holiday based on Aztec and native Latin American tradition, where people believe once a year, the dead come to visit their families. The day has changed over the years to include some Christian traditions as well, but organizers of this event say don't get it confused with that other spooky holiday we celebrated last week. (Sara Lopez Gietzen / Spanish Club President) "Most people say oh, that's like Halloween! And I tell them it is not at all like Halloween, there's no costumes, there's no Frankenstein or witches. We go to the cemeteries and you visit dead families, you bring flowers. The way my family does it in Mexico, for example, the day we go to the cemetery, the DJ brings his equipment to the cemetary, and people request songs." The Spanish Club at MSU has celebrated this event for the past five years.
