Boundaries for New Elementary SchoolNov 3 2009 7:23PM
KXMBTV Bismarck Reporter Amber Schatz speaks to parents about the proposals. She's just one mom on the northeast side of town who wishes her children were going to the new school next year (Shantel Wurtz/Murphy Mom) 18:45 "I drove her by already and showed her the new school for next year and guess we found out Sunday not." Around two hundred students from Northridge and Murphy will go to Sunrise Elementary next school year... to alleviate overcrowding The problem is deciding who will go there (Shantel Wurtz/Mom) 20:15 "The new school I figure would be five miles from home..." Shantel Wurtz says she is not in either of the School Board's two attenDance boundary proposals... even though it would be around 8 miles closer than driving her kids to Murphy... something that doesn't seem to add up (Shantel Wurtz/Mom) 19:16 "Especially when driving by one school and Robert Miller too, now you're busing kids on west point of town to east side of town, doesn't make much sense, but it would save a lot of people in gas, time." But not everyone wants to switch schools... (McKenna Gerrdes/2nd Grade Northridge) 4:33 "I just don't want to because I like this school a lot, because I have a lot of friends here." School officials say transfer requests for families who want to stay where they are will be limited because they are trying to fix the overcrowding problem (Cammie Enders/Northridge Mom) 8:47 "I know that there's a need and I'm glad they're finally able to do something about it." And some parents say it's not so much about which school their child goes to... as long as the value of the education remains high (Ronn Lipp/Northridge Dad) 2:41 "I think all the teachers here in Bismarck are really good, she's just started school so I don't really have much of a preference at this point, cause I don't know much about it at this point and haven't seen the new school, but I'm sure everything will be fine." Amber Schatz, KX News. A special school board meeting is tonight at Century High School at seven o'clock. Parents are encouraged to ask questions about the boundary proposals tonight... and can see the exact map of the proposal by visiting bismarckschools.org
