Sad Days on DSU CampusNov 4 2009 7:24PM
KXMBTV Bismarck Reporter Amber Schatz shows us how teammates and fellow students are coping. (38:52 Coach Kristen Fleury) "To tell you the truth, I'm still in the shock stage and from here on out, it's just going to get harder and harder." It's been an emotionally exhausting few days for those connected to 22-year-old Kyrstin Gemar, 20-year-old Afton Williamson and 21-year-old Ashley Neufeld (Coach Fleury) 37:50 "Ashley, was the smallest girl on the team and she'd go up there and hit home runs and we wouldn't know where they came from and you she had that spark, drive and desire to be on that team." 38:06 "Kyrstin, that kid put a smile on your face, and they always called her mama K for a reason cuz she protected those girls, and they needed something that's whowas next to them, she was always there for them." 38:18 "Afton was her first year here, short three months with her and we had this joke her and I you don't have to worry about me coach, I'm that good kid, and she was, she was the first girl I signed here to play with at DSU, it's going to be hard." Whether they played sports together, shared a class, or only knew them from afar... These three touched more people than even they may know (Andre Walsh/DSU Freshman) 19:38 "It's been very sad, feelings of melancholy, you can just feel, started up and fell right down and everywhere you go, you can see it on faces of students, really terrible." (Amy Tichy/DSU 5th Year) 24:17 "I actually started crying right away I didn't know any of the girls personally, I'd seen them on campus, it's hard to miss anybody on a campus this small." (Coach Kristen Fleury/Head Softball Coach) "40:22 "I couldn't even imagine being a parent, that's the worst thing you can even imagine." (Amber Schatz/KX News) "From their families back home, to their family on the field, the impact of the tragedy hasn't hit home yet." Coach Fleury says the softball team has been spending lots of time together since Sunday night... that they will forever be playing for the three women... And that their team and sisterhood still has a bond that you can't break (Coach Fleury) 39:10 "Those are three players that would be on the field or first to come off the bench and that's going to be hardest thing, but just got to always, we know they're always above us adn they're going to be there no matter what, we've got that 10th, 11th, 12th man on field with us." In Dickinson, Amber Schatz, KX News. Today, family and teammates of three women went to the pond where the students were found. They threw roses and softballs into the water.
