KXMBTV Bismarck A-A-R-P has been working for the past two years with lawmakers to ensure a health care reform plan is developed that meets the needs of nearly 40 million AARP members. AARP's State Director Janis Cheney says AARP backs the current house bill because it contains some critical components that AARP has been fighting for. (Janis Cheney/AARP ND State Director) "We have determined that in the priority areas that our members have repeatedly told us that were important to them, things like closing the donut hole, things like pre-exisiting conditions, eliminating bias against pre-existing conditions. Covering people who are not yet on Medicare. These are the issues that have consistently come to the top." Across the state there are an estimated 84-thousand Medicare beneficiaries. In addition, roughly 13-thousand North Dakotans, between the age of 50 and 64, are uninsured. Another 24-thousand people in that same age group, buy their own insurance coverage.
