Making Bail for CharityNov 5 2009 10:52PM
KXMCTV Minot Normally, you might not be pleased to dish out the cash, but today, dozens of friends were happy to post bail for a worthy cause. Each year, the Muscular Dystrophy Association holds an event called "Lock Up". Dozens of local individuals and groups are notified in advance that they will be taken to jail- in this case, Minot's Sleep Inn. During their hour in lock-up, the volunteer prisoners call a few friends, with hopes of raising 16 hundred dollars bail money to be donated to muscular dystrophy. MDA Executive Director, Laura Hochsprung, says the event is one of their biggest yearly fundraisers. (Laura Hochsprung, Muscular Dystrophy Assn.) "This one's fun, it's a lot of community involvement and a great way for people to get involved in their business and to show other businesses that they care about their community, they care about people in this area, and to come together, do a little networking and have fun being a jailbird for a day." Hochsprung says they had around 50 prisoners pass through their jail throughout the day.
